As of 2005, the civic government of Saskatoon claimed a population of approximately 220,000, growing at an annual rate of 0.62 per cent. Saskatoon is a city of younger people. According to the 2001 census, some 1 in 5 people, or 20.6 percent of the population consists of youths under the age of 14, while those over 65 consitute only 11.8 percent of the population. The median age of Saskatoon residents is 34.4 years of age, three years younger than Canada as a whole.

Over 85 percent of the population is white. Almost 9 percent are of Aboriginal descent. Chinese, Black and Asian are also represented.
